UCSF Health
For more than a century, UCSF Health has offered the highest quality medical treatment. As an academic medical center, UCSF offers pioneering treatments not widely available elsewhere, and has a wide range of expertise that covers virtually all conditions, including cancer, heart disease, neurological disorders, organ transplantation and orthopedics, as well as special services for women and children.
Our services generate over 2 million patient visits to our clinics and more than 42,000 hospital discharges a year. About 3,000 babies are born at UCSF. Annually, these services generate about $5 billion in operating revenue. We have almost 22,800 staff, 3,400 faculty and dozens of locations throughout San Francisco as well as outreach clinics throughout Northern California and beyond.

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital ranks among the nation's best children's hospitals in ten specialties and is one of the top-ranked centers in California.* Effective January 1, 2014, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital affiliated with Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland, building on the hospitals' mutual commitment to provide outstanding care to children in local communities and advance medical discovery and treatment for the world.
The synergies created by coming together allow children and families to benefit from greater depth and breadth of pediatric expertise as well as the innovation possible through collaboration. With the opening of the new UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco in early 2015, UCSF has further expanded and supported the pediatric care we provide to our community.
- First in fetal surgery: UCSF physicians performed the first successful surgery on a baby in the womb and are leaders in the field of fetal diagnosis and treatment.
- Critical care of newborns: The Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery was one of the first of its kind in the world. The 50-bed nursery cares for more than 1,000 infants each year.
- Breakthrough treatments: UCSF researchers developed the first life-saving treatments for premature infants whose lungs aren't fully developed, reducing infant mortality in the developed world by 50 percent within two years of its introduction.

UCSF School of Medicine
Consistently ranked among the nation's top medical schools, the UCSF School of Medicine earns the greatest distinction from its outstanding faculty - among them are four Nobel laureates, 82 National Academy of Medicine members, 64 American Academy of Arts and Sciences members, 41 National Academy of Sciences members, and 17 Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators.
Founded in 1864 as Toland Medical College, the School of Medicine joined the University of California in 1873, and in 1898, moved to its present Parnassus Heights campus. The first UC hospital opened here in 1907, eventually growing into Moffitt-Long Hospitals and later Benioff Children's Hospital. These facilities, together with Mount Zion Hospital, now comprise UCSF Health.
UCSF faculty have also treated patients and trained students at Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center since 1873 and at the San Francisco VA Medical Center for over 50 years. UCSF is affiliated with a number of other hospitals in the Bay Area and Fresno, including Children's Hospital Oakland.
